  • Edo Furin are glass wind chimes that have been made since the Edo period (1603-1868)

  • Each are individually hand-crafted and the edges are intentionally left un-smoothed to enhance sound quality

  • Every furin differs slightly in sound, regardless whether they have the same shape and design

  • The ringing of furin is especially enjoyed in Japan during the hot and humid summer months, and are appreciated as cooling, soothing sounds

  • Japanese wisteria can live for over 100 years, therefore considered auspicious plants

  • There is also wordplay with the Japanese word for Wisteria, “Fuji”, which can also mean “immortality” (written using different characters)
